The current vintage, 2010 was a moderate to low yielding vintage due to a cooler flowering period. A long summer with intermittent rainfall set the vineyard up for a fabulous vintage, particularly for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The season finished with a long, cool and dry autumn with lovely natural balance of pH and acidity.

‘Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2010 Cowley Vineyard Pinot Noir offers notes of red cherries and black raspberries with an undercurrent of Ceylon tea, roses and tree moss. Medium bodied, it gives a good amount of red berry flavors in the mouth with ripe tannins, refreshing acidity and a long finish. Drink it now to 2015+.’
‘Still a baby, the 2010 vintage was grown in the Southern Valleys, Marlborough, hand-picked at 23.5 brix, fermented with indigenous yeasts, French oak-matured for 11 months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. A very graceful wine, it is full-coloured, savoury and complex, with intense, youthful cherry/spice flavours, woven with fresh acidity, a nutty oak influence, and good tannin backbone. Open mid-2013+.’
‘Moderately deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has an elegant, intense bouquet of mineral-infused, dark red berry fruits and violetty perfumes with some tight steeliness. Medium-bodied, this has a very fine-textured palate with silky, supple tannins supporting dark red berry and red floral fruit flavours, interwoven with notes of spice and oak cedar. The acidity is subtle and adds to a seamless and freshly presented wine that unfolds more perfumed nuances in the glass. Fruit from north-facing hillside ‘Cowley’ vineyard, fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine aged in French oak for 11 months. A refined wine that will evolve over the next 6-8+ years. Match with delicately spiced Asian cuisine.
