2010 Terravin Pinot Noir Eaton Family Vineyard

2010 was a moderate to low yielding vintage due to a cooler flowering period.  A long summer with intermittent rainfall set the vineyard up for a fabulous vintage, particularly for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The season finished with a long, cool and dry autumn with lovely natural balance of pH and acidity.

Reviews

Lisa Perrotti-Brown M.W., Wine Advocate – E Robert Parker – October 2011 - 92/100

‘Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2010 Eaton Family Vineyard Pinot Noir offers earthy notes of humus, moss covered bark and forest floor over a core of wild blueberries, mulberries and plums. Medium bodied and elegantly fruited in the mouth, it gives just enough taut blackberry and earth flavors with crisp acidity, velvety tannins, and a long finish. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012 to 2017+.’

Michael Cooper, Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide 2012 ★★★★★

‘The 2010 is a beautiful, very ‘complete’ wine. Deep and youthful in colour, it is powerful and finely poised, with rich cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, and silky tannins. Already delicious, it should be long-lived; open 2013+.’

‘The final wine of the tasting was the TerraVin ‘Eaton Family Vineyard’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010 (19.0+/20), bright, light ruby-red colour, the nose is intensely concentrated and penetrating with its red berry fruit and waves of perfumed florals, quite beautiful with delicacy and detail.  Medium-bodied, this is elegantly proportioned, with a tightly bound richness and succulence that unfolds.  Dark red berry fruits and a spectrum of florals with subtle oak spicing.  The acidity provides excellent tension and energy for line and drive, leading to a long sweet and lusciously fine finish.  This will evolve over the next 5-7 years.’
